I have already ask this question in “mythology and forklore”
and I am now having to expanding my search. Prehaps the christian sector has some wisdom to share …after all many animals are mentioned in the bible and I can only asume it was for a reason.

I am doing a research work on the subject of “Time” in which, a certain animal stands out as a universal icon of time for humanity throughout the ages.

There are many denominations of Christianity that differ in their interpretation of the bible. How much of the bible is open to interpretaion anyway? What if you take half of it literally and subject the other have to your own personal interests? Would you still be a Christian? What if you only took 10% of it literally? How do you know which parts are open to interpretation? How do you know the whole thing isn’t just a bunch of suggestions and ideas instead of doctrine and law?

If it matters, I am an atheist and I have read a great deal of the bible including all of the NT. I’m not looking to accuse anybody of anything, I’m just curious.

I don’t believe the Christian Bible, and can understand where most of the concepts of self-sacrifice, obedience, etc. would have come in handy for power over society when it was written. I’m not confused about the promise of a return, as it’s just that - a promise; hope. I am confused, however, about the elaborate detail on things such as the Mark of the Beast. It seems as though it would have been easier to not write more than was necessary for their cause. Why is the description so detailed, and what was/is the social purpose of this “prediction”? Thanks!

Please don’t tell me to do a search on Amazon.com. I’m looking for useful information. I need a tile and author and would prefer someone who has read these to give me their opinion of the best copy of these books. As far as the exact copy of the Apocrypha if you have your copy handy an ISBN number would be useful (I would like the translated text….not someone who writes of the stories that happened).
